Color STN has a color filter over FSTN. Light, transmitted by the backlight, needs to through the color filter.
CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) and LED (Light Emitting Diode) are used as a backlight. LCD is made of a cell that contains liquid crystal material sandwiched between two glass plates. Lines and columns of the transparent conductor are configured on the inner surfaces of the cell. A transparent polarizing film is attach-ed to the top glass plate. Pre-tilted angle is to twist LC for the direction. LCD is classified by difference in twist angle, TN and STN. A gray scale scheme is applied to control the transmittance of R.G.B. pixels on color filter. By the different proportion of R.G.B. elements, we can get many kinds of color. Additionally, due to optical compensation properties of retardation film, we can get higher contrast and wider viewing angle on the display.

The Transflective color LCD has a weak point in that it can't express the image in the dark area. To over-come such a weakness, EVERVISION has developed several technical methods. In the dark area, The Trans-flective type uses a Backlight and in the light area expresses an image without Backlight.
